Kickin' Cards

Another interesting find. These appear to be some sort of trading card game pieces - who knows. I found the colorful graphics to irresistable to pass up, and I was pretty sure I could do something with them.

I hated to lose the writing on the back, but one must sacrifice for great art. I placed a few sticky mounts on the back to attach to those pre-made blank notecards (another thrift store find!).

How awesome are these "any occasion" cards? Weird I know, but I think they'd make great Christmas cards!

FLASHY COZY

I absolutely love my KitchenAid Stand Mixer - BRIGHT RED! Sorry the picture is a little dark, but trust me - it's awesome.

However, it gets dusty and the small kitchen appliance cozies aren't really for me, so it's time for . . . CRAFTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found what appears to be the back of a blouse or jacket in one of my favorite thrift shops. Maybe someone was about to make a costume. Anyhow, it was so vibrant and colorful that I had to have it. Look at all that detail. It's been sitting in my sewing bag for a couple of weeks, and it occurred to me how I could put it to good use with an old pair of overalls.

Beautiful blouse back

This is how my flashy cozy was born. I topstitched the blouse back to the overalls and viola!!

A very flashy mixer cozy. It will keep the dust off my mixer, and it'a definitely
an eye-catcher. I think it needs a little hat.

LAUNDRY DAY

Does anyone ever find strange things in the rinse cycle at the laundromat? When I'm taking my clothes out I usually find a penny, a guitar pick or what's left of an old receipt.

I started putting these away in my coin purse and realized I had enough for a, you guessed it, CRAFT PROJECT!!!! Below is the little vignette I came up with.

My co-worker Brian suggested "Luxurious Laundry Life" as a name for this fantastic piece of art. Any offers?

VERY TACKY

So I love shopping at thrift stores and garage sales, which is why my apartment is looking more and more like a hoard. But I enjoy myself so it's sort of like saving money on therapy. Anyhow, I found this box of tacks for about sixty cents and thought I'd be able to use them as is or bling them out.
box o'tacks
I hadn't had them longer than a week when this little outfit turned up at a local thrift store. It's a super snazzy dance costume with tons of diamonds! (Yes, I know they're rhinestones, but I can dream can't I.)

I carefully removed all the rhinestones from the costume, and pulled out every crafter's best friend, Krazy Glue!

The rhinestones were of various sizes, but there was more than enough that fit perfectly on the heads of my tacks.

It's not easy to see in the photo, but the rhinestones catch the light and twinkle on the cork board over my desk. I was so proud that I finally put my collection of mismatched earrings and buttons to good use.

From left to right: an old earring, a vintage button and a decorative shoe ornament. How cute is right.

I just used my Krazy Glue and attached thumbtacks to the backs. My office is now very blinged out. Take that Gypsy Sisters!
